JAM0 Event @ Devcon 7

Amazingly, there are over 10+ teams implementing JAM:

https://jamcha.in/clients

Some teams are starting to pass the first few tests with available test vectors, are asking detailed questions about the JAM Gray Paper in the GP Chat Room and JAM Chat Room.

With Devcon 7 in Thailand in November (tickets going on sale again July 30 here ). and sub0 proposed to happen in LATAM, we would like propose a JAM0 event to bring these teams together.

We have at least *SIX* serious implementors who are interested in going to Devcon 7 and can connect their JAM implementations with each other. This proposal aims to support their Devcon tickets and get the bulk of each team's travel budget reimbursed, up to $7.5K/team (with travel receipts, like 3-4 people/team on average). As of Fall 2024, "serious implementors" should be pretty close to passing "JAM Milestone 1" and not be in "just learning" mode, be able to pass "Block Import" tests (when available) or at least passing most all test vectors available and know _exactly_ where they are bottlenecked, and basically be ready to network their implementations with other teams with QUIC at an event like this.

Budget: (estimated $118,313=19K DOT*$6.227/DOT)

  • $75,000 Travel (10 teams x $7.5K/team)
  • $43,313 Venue + Food for JAM Implementors + core devs working on PolkaVM + related tooling

Any unused budget from securing will be applied to a similar JAM0 event at sub0 (also focussed on implementers+protocol devs).

Everyone will be required to follow the official W3F rules and unofficial "Rules" (from Gav).

Venue:

We are collaborating with OneBlock on this, see OpenGov Ref #897. The final venue will be announced in August. We will set up a JAM0 Matrix room for teams to follow along.

Teams:

See below. If you are a serious implementor (or a protocol dev), please comment below!

For me the ideal scenario would be presence of these teams at Devcon in Bangkok + Sub0 (small and purely developer-focussed, 1-2 days) in Bangkok as well, reaching out to other dev communities to invite them. Sub0 should have a portion dedicated to a JAM implementors conference/session, and include this content in the agenda. Doing this in the same city as Devcon allows us to be much more efficient when it comes to technical teams traveling and participating in more than one event and to meet and collaborate with other communities - actively reaching out to them.

Not much to add except I think this is a great idea.
