OneBlock, in collaboration with Parity Asia, successfully organized, operated and promoted the 6 Hackathon competitions: the Spring 2021 Shanghai, the Summer 2021 Hangzhou, the Summer 2022 Hangzhou, the Winter 2022 Chengdu, the 2023 Shanghai, and the 2023 HongKongwith over 300 teams and 1000+ developers signing up to participate.
Each competition has seen a growing number of participating projects, It can be seen that the Hackathon hosted by the OneBlock+ community continues to be popular among developers, and the popularity and popularity of the Polkadot Hackathon reached a leap in 2023.
With all the operational experience and marketing success on the Polkadot Hackathon, OneBlock proposes to continue the Polkadot Hackathon program in July 2024 to Nov 2024, an essential part of the Substrate and Polkadot promotion and adoption initiatives in APAC,to promote Substrate as an open-source framework for developers and convert the Substrate learners from OneBlock’s ongoing Substrate courses to Substrate builders. Our goal is to encourage teams of developers to create projects and join the Polkadot ecosystem for long-term involvement.
Additionally, Oneblock+ hopes to bring the Polkadot hackathon to Singapore and Bangkok in the second half of 2024, which will not only perfectly align with the token2049 conference in September and the Devcon conference in November, but also consolidate our efforts over the past year to continuously attract developers from all over Asia to build on Polkadot. We funds are used to host, prize, organize the 2024 Polkadot Hackathon in Singapore and Bangkok, and the operating cost is 30% of the total cost, and 70% fees is distributed to the winning team as rewards.
I would like to further explain the cost structure of our proposal. Although the total proposal amount of our hackathon is indeed higher than the others hackathon proposal, this is mainly because we use 70% of the proposal funds to reward the winning teams to encourage more high-quality teams to participate.
Our goal is not only to educate new developers, but also to motivate them to develop high-quality applications and solutions on the Polkadot network through high bonuses. We believe that this approach will not only bring more innovation, but also promote the long-term development of the Polkadot ecosystem.

The main issue we've had with Oneblock's hackathons is that the participants don't linger long enough in the ecosystem and that the prizes seem disproportionate to the previous hackathon size and results. Quoted examples are Dfinity's Supernova. Which seems far apart as this Dfinity 2022 event was global and long lasting. What is the motivation for these prizes and can you talk about the most salient previous hackathon winners (Like MeloDot and Mimir) and what can we do to improve the quality and permanence of these hackathon winners. Some of the examples I gave are old, and I have replaced them.thanks for your reminder! It is very necessary to continue to do hackathons. We are dealing with Polkadot ecosystem developers every day. We have been popularizing the advantages of Polkadot technology and how to join the Polkadot ecosystem to build our own products. We do everything we can to attract them and keep them in the Polkadot ecosystem. As you all know, in addition to hosting hackathons, Oneblock has also been doing Polkadot developer courses, activities, technical content, etc. every month, we attract some developers from Web2 through various channels and methods to learn how to build products based on Polkadot. Our strategy is to attract developers through events and technical content, teach everyone how to quickly build products on Polkadot through developer courses, and then let them make their own products through hackathons, transforming developers from 0 to 1 into projects. If there is no hackathon, these developers may leave after completing the course. We need to rely on hackathons to continue to let these developers produce their own products and get some hackathon bonuses to support them to continue this project. If we don’t do this, many developers will really flow into other ecosystems. Here I want to say that many hackathon projects, including award-winning projects such as MeloDot and Mimir, are still continuing to build the Polkadot ecosystem after the competition. They have not left the Polkadot ecosystem. Some projects are also applying for support from the treasury or web3grant to continue their projects, but the fundamental problem is that these developers lack resource support and cannot quickly grow into projects that the entire community pays attention to. Although Oneblock provided some resource support after the hackathon, it was still not enough to meet all the needs of these startup projects. We need you, me, and more resources and strength inside and outside the ecosystem to help them grow from 1 to 100. This is also an urgent matter. I suggest that we can systematically help these award-winning projects become more prominent projects in the entire community through the following ways. For example, we can cooperate with incubators, professional mentors, etc. to provide more comprehensive guidance and support; help them strengthen market promotion and ecological cooperation to enhance the visibility and influence of these projects; we can also establish a continuous reward and tracking mechanism to ensure that the award-winning projects can take root and develop in the ecosystem, etc. These are all things we are about to do. I also hope that everyone can work together to help these projects succeed, and we can have more discussions on this. And this is also an important reason why I set the final demoday of this year's hackathon in Singapore and Bangkok instead of continuing in China. Because the token2049 conference in September and the devcon conference in November are the top conferences in the entire web3 industry, and top web3 institutions, exchanges, media, etc. from all over the world will gather here. I will try my best to invite these people to serve as judges/audiences to come to the demoday site to watch the birth of the latest Polkadot startup project in 2024. At this hackathon site, all projects can directly communicate with them and communicate about future project cooperation. I hope that through these efforts, they can have better development.
This is Dr. Cao, founder of AIWeb3 DAO. I am writing to express my enthusiastic support for this proposal. I strongly believe that organizing a hackathon is an excellent strategy to attract more developers and builders to join the Polkadot ecosystem. Oneblock has consistently demonstrated outstanding dedication and has been making significant contributions to Polkadot for an extended period. Their efforts and commitment are truly commendable.

I completely agree with your point of view. Organizing hackathons is indeed a very good strategy that can effectively attract more developers and builders to join the Polkadot ecosystem. This can not only discover outstanding talents, but also inject new vitality and innovation into the entire ecosystem.
