Infrastructure Funding for Polkadot Asset Hub #4 - Maintenance & Continuation of Public good Polkadot NFT marketplace
Infrastructure Funding for Polkadot Asset Hub #4 - Maintenance & Continuation of Public good Polkadot NFT marketplace
TL:DR
This proposal continues from KodaDot's one-year treasury proposal (#1262) which concludes in October 2025. After successfully delivering on that proposal, the founder chose to pursue other ventures. We've been building NFT infrastructure in Polkadot for 5 years.
Chaotic requests $180,000 USDC to maintain critical NFT infrastructure for the Polkadot ecosystem. This proposal ensures continuity of services previously delivered under KodaDot, which concludes operations in October 2025.
Background
We're the team that built and ran KodaDot for 5 years., the core development team has established Chaotic to ensure uninterrupted service for the ecosystem's NFT infrastructure. This transition preserves critical services that currently support 90,000+ NFTs and process 1.14 million monthly requests.
Current Infrastructure Status
Our infrastructure currently maintains:
- Our indexers processing 285,000+ weekly requests across AssetHub Polkadot and Kusama
- APIs serving ecosystem projects including Nova Wallet and Dotmemo
- IPFS gateway managing 90,000+ NFT metadata files
- 99.9% uptime with 143ms average response time
Scope of Work
Milestone 1: Infrastructure Maintenance ($80,000)
- Maintain indexer operations and hosting
- Ensure API availability and performance
- Complete KodaDot to Chaotic platform migration
Milestone 2: Feature Development ($60,000)
- Mass Mint V2 implementation
- Traits and rarity systems
- Advanced filtering capabilities
Milestone 3: Platform Support ($40,000)
- Runtime compatibility updates
- Security patches and bug fixes
- Artist onboarding program ($12,000 allocation)
- PolkaVM research & integration
Critical Timeline Considerations
The Asset Hub launches November 4th, 2025. Without continued funding, the Polkadot ecosystem will lack NFT marketplace functionality at this critical juncture. Additionally, cessation of our indexing services would require ecosystem projects to develop alternative solutions at significantly higher cost.
Risk Assessment
Failure to secure funding would result in:
- Immediate cessation of indexing services upon proposal #1262 expiration
- Loss of API access for dependent projects
- Inaccessibility of indexed blockchain data accumulated over 5 years
- Absence of NFT marketplace infrastructure on Asset Hub launch
- No frontend for Polkadot & Kusama NFTs on Asset Hub

Our methodology aims to analyze and evaluate OpenGov proposals objectively, effectively, and transparently, establishing clear decision-making foundations for our votes while making our process visible to the community.
For a deeper dive into our evaluation, please see the detailed report here: https://vonflandern.org/polkadot-referendum/1768.As we have outlined in the work of the NFTMozaic, Kodadot Indexer is pretty much the only one developers can use to create dApps on the main NFT pallets, which makes its maintenance crucial. It is enough reason to support this proposal, which is adequately priced and from the team with more then a proven track record in the ecosystem.
