Discussion thread: https://polkadot.polkassembly.io/post/2497

tl;dr This proposal is derived from the discussion thread hosted to tip DVs. Proposal: Retroactive Tip to Saxemberg.

Saxemberg was one of the active DVs during the Cohort, which maintained 94.7% overall participation rate and actively communicated with the border community on voting rationale.

Participation rate of Saxemberg per Track. Screenshot 2024-10-17 at 18.01.24.png

Calculation of tip: Based on their participation and communication with the DAO, Saxemberg is eligible for the maximum tip.

Industry standard for compensating delegates. Here are some of the examples. Uniswap: 6,000 USD/month in UNI 1inch: 4,000 USDC/mth Arbitrium up to 7,000 USD/mth in ARB

Saxemberg's Optin message `We didn't know about this retroactive payment and we were contacted by DAOplomats so that we can participate in this retroactive referendum. We recently we have changed our mind about DV payments as OpenGov progresses, because actual costs have been incurred so we are able to support certain referenda effectively. payout address 11fx8xKPNd4zVSBxkpN8qhhaGEmNJvPgKqwhDATZQXs7dkM

Your Average voting participation (Colorful Notion dashboard) Describe your contributions during the period. 94.7% overall participation Expected fare tip in DOT We prefer propotional to alll opt-in participants. We would this use to tip our Chinese and Spanish speaking analysts that had more referenda content to analyze than originally intended, who are the ones that provide some services externally (Not Saxemberg employees) as well as our crypto expert who had to analyze quite complex proposals. It will be helpful to retain this talent on our side.`

Original Proposal

tl;dr This proposal seeks to tip the members of Cohort 2 for their contributions during the term. We propose a total tip of up to 2,500 DOT for DVs proposal to their contributions, equating to approximately 833.33 DOT per month.

Update: 16. 10.24 After border feedback and individual considerations, we considered putting separate tip proposals for DVs who opted in. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a perfect formula that would capture all the delegates' contributions. Our Suggestion for calculating tip: Points for participation: 95— 100% proposals voted — 10 points. Feedback and rationale provided: Varying based on communication level. DAOplomats will make individual proposals for the following DV if and when they Optin — Saxemberg: 2,500 DOT — Chaos DAO: 2,100 DOT — Lucky Friday Labs 2,500 DOT — Ezio Rojas: 1,500 DOT We encourage other DV to opt in or make their own proposals. — Baer

Motivation

Cohort 2 of the Web3 Foundation's Decentralized Voices (DV) program consisted of 10 dedicated participants who actively voted on proposals and provided valuable feedback. Participants like Saxemberg and Lucky Friday Labs went above and beyond, engaging with proposers to help refine and improve their submissions. Given the volume of proposals submitted via OpenGov during this time, these efforts demanded additional time and resources. To recognise and reward these meaningful contributions, we propose retroactively compensating Cohort 2 members, which would foster continued community engagement and support. The proposed tip is a maximum of 2,500 DOT, approximately 833.33 DOT per month. However, the tip amount should reflect individual contributions during the DV period.

Why OptIn?

Participation levels during the period varied significantly. For example, Chaos DAO maintained over 95% voting participation across multiple tracks, while other members participated less frequently or barely voted on proposals. More info: Polkadot and Kusama Decentralized Voices

As a result, we are asking Cohort 2 members to reply to this discussion thread with the following details if they wish to opt in for the tip: Name: payout address: Your Average voting participation (Colorful Notion dashboard) Describe your contributions during the period. Expected fare tip in DOT : xxx DOT

Voting AYE.
Saxemberg has been a role model for DVs and beyond. I want to add a more outside ecosystem perspective here which ideally highlights a value of Saxemberg beyond polkadot. As a longterm Cardano Ambassador who got quite engaged in Polkadot thingies tho, i am learning a lot from Saxemberg through their activities on Polkadot Governance. Since following Saxemberg closely (and being very impressed by their work) i started to apply learnings to collectives at Cardano Governance. Two heavily engaged cardano open source developer projects for example adapted/adopted Saxembergs voting guidelines:

  • Mesh adopting Saxemberg voting guidelines
  • SIDAN adopting Saxemberg voting guidelines
Next step is to setup processes which draw from Saxembergs expertise as well as from other engaged groups and collectives at OpenGov. However, if the tip here deservs an AYE, then, from a more outside perspective (wearing my Cardano Ambassador hat here) i'd say 100% YES. Saxemberg adds value to blockchain governance beyond polkadot, acts as a role model and establishes a high and desirable level for any governance collectives within and without polkadot..

Ps:
So do others, but here its about Saxemberg XD
Lets send them that tip

I'm voting AYE. I author the proposal because I strongly believe in rewarding position engagements in the community, especially since there wasn't any expectation of compensation for DVs.
Should I, as an author, abstain? IMO, I shouldn't, as I'm not financially benefiting from the proposal, and it is just part of the political philosophy I and DAOplomats uphold.
More on our voting principles DAOplomats.com/about.

I appreciate all the voters who segmented the proposal and kept it just about Saxemberg rather than using this proposal to evaluate the entire Cohort 2 DVs.
