<p>A one-stop testnet faucet for all the substrate chains that will also support EVMs on substrate chains making it the first <strong>Hybrid Faucet</strong> in the ecosystem. With XCM channels exploding already, we should presume the upcoming wave of next-gen Polkadot dApps is near! Most of them will leverage multiple parachains and solochains simultaneously. To cater to this future need we are introducing this universal faucet idea with single-click multi-chain disbursements to make cross-chain testing a breeze.</p>

<p>The Faucet will be immune to attacks using derived accounts. Also using web3/signer login, the faucet can be used only once a day across all the accounts from the signer.</p>
<h2 id="costandtimeline">Cost and Timeline:</h2>
<p>We are considering $500 per chain integration with 50% of the grant being vested for 1yr (vesting will be done in the same multisig with the contributors as signers). There are currently 69 testnets in the Polkadot ecosystem. Referencing the EMA30 which is <strong>$7.716 per DOT</strong> the total will be <strong>4471 $DOT</strong> which is ~34500$. The complete development will be done within <strong>4 weeks</strong> with the additional service of maintaining the faucet for 24 months along with weekly integration for new testnets at no additional costs.</p>

<p>The universal testnet faucet is quite crucial for developers who are looking to leverage technologies from different substrate chains in their stack. This will also complement the push towards multichain hybrid deployments.</p>

<p>Currently, we don&rsquo;t have a faucet that does single-click multi-chain disbursements in the whole substrate ecosystem. The ecosystem also doesn't have any ready-to-use faucet which supports all the testnets.</p>

<p>This is the first edition of a series aiming to build a developer community in India for the Polkadot ecosystem from the ground up by hosting in-campus workshops and hackathons in the leading <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Institutes_of_Technology">IIT universities</a>, which are known worldwide for producing the largest number of leading developers. IITs have a vast untapped talent pool that needs to be curated through a well-defined path of learning, knowledge exchange, and a competition. We are looking to establish the path through this 3-in-1 event, which features workshops for accelerated learning, the foundation of students' collective for a series of tech &amp; non-tech activities, and the final hackathon.</p>

<h1 id="whynoteventsbounty"><strong>Why not events bounty?</strong></h1>
<p>We did apply for the events bounty twice, but the curators denied our initial and refined proposals because of reasons mentioned, like a limit on the number of organizing members involved, their misunderstanding of the review rating with a star rating for one of the cheapest accommodations, etc. We will post a detailed thread on our experience with the events bounty, especially the curators&rsquo; lack of thorough research later as our priority is the successful hosting of this 3-in-1 event in one of the best universities for which getting another approval (letter of intent) won&rsquo;t be easy.</p>
<p>Due to the two-week delay caused by the events bounty, we are forced to post multiple big tippers, as a small spender could take significant time. We need about 15k USD out of our total requested amount to make the necessary reservations/bookings (partial token amount wherever possible). So we are looking to post four big tippers and one small spender for the same. Upon approval of the first big tipper, we will encode the rest of the proposals and proceed with the bookings.</p>

<p>We are excited to propose a first-of-its-kind hackathon and workshop for the Polkadot ecosystem in India, organized by <a href="https://blockseblock.com/"><strong>Blockseblock</strong></a> in collaboration with Edgetributors SubDAO. This event aims to foster innovation, development, and community engagement within the Polkadot ecosystem by bringing together talented developers, students, and blockchain enthusiasts. The fundamental propositions of this event are as follows:</p>

Filling this gap with a properly maintained package would enhance developer reach and flexibility across the ecosystem.</p>

<h2 id="edgetributorsubdaosrole"><strong>Edgetributor SubDAO&rsquo;s role</strong></h2>
<p>We came across the noble packages while preparing for our next project. We found that there is the ed25519 package which can be used with some patchy ways for our implementation. Then we came across the discussion on a <a href="https://github.com/paulmillr/noble-curves/issues/68">closed issue by ntn-x2</a> where Paul showed interest in the integration of the sr25519 curve, subject to sponsorship availability. So we followed up with him and he wanted to pursue this further. Considering the impact of Paul&rsquo;s work on the whole web3 space, we decided to voluntarily curate his proposal and take care of all the administrative work (as per his request). The entire amount corresponding to this proposal and the audit sponsorship proposal (yet to be proposed) will go to him and the auditing entity. In this whole process, Edgetributor SubDAO or Edgeware DAO or any Edgeware contributors are not getting financially benefited by any means.</p>

<li>Part b (hdkd, <del>musig,</del> vrf) would take up to 1 working week, thus the implementation would cost a maximum of <del>10000</del> 8000 USD. {Depending upon the viability, we might have a separate <a href="https://paulmillr.com/noble/#scure">@scure</a>/sr25519 package for the <del>musig and/or</del> vrf instead of including <del>them</del> it under @noble/curves/sr25519.}</li>

<p><strong>Notable terms:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>If the development finishes earlier than 2 work weeks, the corresponding unused funds will be returned.</li>
<li>Paul suggested the Cure53 auditing firm which doesn&rsquo;t need any upfront payment. He received the all-included quotation of 22500 EUR for a maximum total of 18 working days.</li>
<li>However, Cure53 is booked until January. So he is open to getting the auditing done through any other auditing firms. We are already discussing this with an auditing firm having an earlier availability. If anyone from the community knows of any auditing firms available within 1-2 months, feel free to suggest them in the comments.</li>
<li>For now, this proposal will be proposed for only the development of the @noble/curves/sr25519 package and another proposal can be proposed for the auditing after the development.</li>

<p>MPC{dot}Snap&nbsp;is an innovative security suite that leverages Multiparty Computation to enhance account security beyond traditional hardware wallets. As exploits and attacks become increasingly sophisticated, keys with a single entry point are becoming more vulnerable. In the Polkadot ecosystem, hardware wallets don&rsquo;t fully support all pallet functions, leaving many community members who store their keys digitally at greater risk.<br /><br />Snaps was introduced to the public by Metamask in September 2023 and since then this architecture has been used for different use cases while providing users more functionalities with a similar experience and no learning curve. The biggest use case for Metamask Snaps so far is providing a compatibility layer for the non-EVM chains.<br /><br />We already have the &lsquo;Polkadot Wallet Snap by ChainSafe&rsquo; and &lsquo;Polkagate Snap&rsquo; in the ecosystem providing just the compatibility layer for Substrate chains on Metamask. MPC{dot}Snap goes a step further. Instead of merely offering wallet compatibility, MPC{dot}Snap introduces a comprehensive suite of Snap-Dapp-App, offering a robust alternative to traditional hardware wallets through the power of Multiparty Computation. Hardware wallets become vulnerable once their keys or seeds are exposed. In contrast, compromising the MPC.Snap would require an attacker to breach two separate devices or access keys and seeds stored through two distinct methods or channels.</p>

<p>Outside of the EVM ecosystem, no other blockchain networks currently offer MPC-based Snap solutions. This presents a significant opportunity for the Polkadot ecosystem to introduce a leading, easily accessible, and highly secure wallet management solution. By doing so, Polkadot can not only enhance security for its users but also attract new users from other ecosystems, thanks to the minimal learning curve of the snap architecture inherited from Metamask.</p>
<p>In many regions, the cost of a phone is significantly lower than that of purchasing or importing a hardware wallet. This disparity creates a substantial barrier to accessible security for community members from various demographics and countries. Until the @noble/curves/sr25519 package by Paul Miller gets audited, we will use the existing @noble/curves/ed25519 to create the ed25519-tss-js package. So initially the MPC.Snap will be based on ed25519, while the sr25519 support will be added down the line before the public release.</p>

Development of MPC{dot}Snap

<p>The <a href="https://github.com/paulmillr/micro-sr25519">micro-sr25519 package</a> developed by Paul Miller as an extension to @noble/curves to support the Polkadot ecosystem is now ready for the auditing phase. For this phase, Paul suggested to go with a new firm other than the Cure53 as most of his work is audited by Cure53. So we (Edgetributor SubDAO) explored multiple auditing firms for the last couple of weeks and selected 3 firms for the final evaluation. We then reviewed the scopes and offerings of those 3 firms based on the backgrounds of the auditing researchers they offered, their experience, stack familiarity and total number of researchers proposed in the scope, Polkadot ecosystem familiarity, low level JS/TS experience and cryptographic curves familiarity. Oak Security firm is the one which turned out to be superior compared to the other offerings in this specific case. <p>What started as a quest to have the development of a missing component required for our project, have come a long way to benefit the whole Polkadot ecosystem. Edgetributor SubDAO as the curator of this proposal will be representing Oak Security in OpenGov and in other operational duties. Edgetributor SubDAO will be responsible for the custody of the USDC (in a multisig) which needs to be disbursed to the Oak Security in two mentioned phases. Oak Security also requires a legal entity to sign the contract and for the same purpose Edgetributor SubDAO will utilise the legal entity of Edgeware DAO Association (Swiss Association) to save the costs and time required to involve PCF.<br />The entire amount corresponding to this proposal (except the refundable bridging buffer) will be going to the auditing entity Oak Security. In this whole process, Edgetributor SubDAO or Edgeware DAO or any Edgeware contributors are not getting financially benefited by any means. We are interested in exploring the BD bounty for our time and efforts contributed so far, especially for the screening of the auditing firms, comparative analysis of their offerings and follow-ups.</p>

The purpose of this proposal is to top up our total initial request from [REF #541](https://polkadot.polkassembly.io/referenda/541), as due to the fluctuation of DOT price, we received 13.95% less.

- Initial request: $34500, equivalent to 4471 DOT at $7.716 per DOT.

- Received (17.04.2024): $29687.44, equivalent to 4471 DOT at $6.64 per DOT.
 
- New request: $4812.56, equivalent to 724.78 DOT at $6.64 per DOT.

Given the successful deployment of the [Universal Hybrid Faucet](https://substratefaucet.xyz/) in production, we are now requesting the top up to fulfill our commitment of maintaining the faucet for 2 years, as proposed in the approved proposal.  Top Up request: Universal Hybrid Substrate Faucet

## Objective:
A one-stop testnet faucet for all the substrate chains that will also support EVMs on substrate chains making it the first **Hybrid Faucet** in the ecosystem. 
With XCM channels exploding already, we should presume the upcoming wave of next-gen Polkadot dApps is near! Most of them will leverage multiple parachains and solochains simultaneously. To cater to this future need we are introducing this universal faucet idea with single-click multi-chain disbursements to make cross-chain testing a breeze.

## Features:
#### Faucet with 2 modes: 
﹒ **Network switcher mode**: This can be utilized for individual disbursement on a specific substrate chain.

﹒ **Network selector mode**: This can be utilized for bulk disbursements on selected substrate chains. 
#### EVM support: 
All frontier-based EVMs will be supported right out of the box. While support for custom EVM implementations will be added on a rolling basis.
#### Attack Resilient: 
The Faucet will be immune to attacks using derived accounts. Also using web3/signer login, the faucet can be used only once a day across all the accounts from the signer.


## Cost and Timeline:
We are considering $500 per chain integration with 50% of the grant being vested for 1yr (vesting will be done in the same multisig with the contributors as signers). There are currently 69 testnets in the Polkadot ecosystem. Referencing the EMA30 which is **$7.51 per DOT** the total will be **4593 $DOT** which is ~34500$.
The complete development will be done within **4 weeks** with the additional service of maintaining the faucet for 24 months along with weekly integration for new testnets at no additional costs.
