This is a follow-up proposal on what we submitted [in mid-October last year](https://polkadot.polkassembly.io/treasury/177#88ca13f3-fd36-4772-8f0a-25bf109ba9f0), to further fund the development of the RPC services and to cover the maintenance costs of it.

This new proposal includes one Milestone.

**Milestone 1:** Continue to run the Polkadot, Statemint and Westend RPC services on dedicated hardware, located at small independent co-location sites in Sweden and Tunisia.


### Report from Q4 2022

- During Q4 2022 our Polkadot RPC node served on average **5,291,405** requests per day, and in total we served **486,809,279** requests. 
- During Q4 2022 our Statemint RPC node served on average **411,342** requests per day, and in total we served **37,843,427** requests. 
- During Q4 2022 our Westend RPC node served on average **56,764** requests per day, and in total we served **5,222,275** requests. 

Since our last proposal we have launched a [cluster in Tunisia](https://twitter.com/DwellirOfficial/status/1610539637583536128?s=20&t=2XsNIazwTRxOSXbhDJQ6XA), North Africa. The nodes in Tunisia are in production.

Smoldot is a lightweight client software for connecting to the Polkadot blockchain's peer-to-peer network. Its purpose is to eliminate the need for trusted servers, enhancing security and reducing maintenance costs. Developed solely by Pierre Krieger, a Polkadot technical fellowship member, Smoldot aims to conform to the Polkadot protocol, provide a good user experience, improve infrastructure, and potentially build a new full node implementation. Quarterly milestones include general maintenance, periodic networking key rotation, implementing new JSON-RPC APIs for better network visualization, and enabling warp syncing for the full node. Pierre Krieger's track record in open-source projects and expertise in Polkadot development underscore Smoldot's high reliability.
