Reducing duration of spending periods

Spending periods currently set at 24 days are a big problem. It takes up to 28 days for a referendum to pass, then you have to add 7 days confirmation and if let's assume the confirmation ends on the first day of a new spending period you have to wait another 24 days. From what I've heard this choice of 24 days is completely arbitrary but it seems to create a lot of problems because it takes like 2 months to receive funds from when a referendum is initiated if you're unlucky with the spending period. So why create this extra uncertainty? I would suggest to reduce the spending period to the shortest possible time, if it's one day it's great, if it's not possible maybe to 1 week? The shorter the better of course whatever is technically feasible

Yes. Just. Yes.

Agree. I think due to the weight of the payouts, it shouldn't be every day, but reducing down to 7 days makes sense to me (although I am not an expert on this, so happy to hear counter-arguments from the devs).

Alice_und_Bob is right. Probably not worth it, but rather we should focus on getting people to use the spend extrinsic.
