EDIT:

Requested: $485,000 (50,817.27 DOT @ $9.544 EMA7)

Received: $350,027 (50,817.27 @ $6.88 EMA7)

Difference: $134,973

We're proposing a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the Polkadot ecosystem’s infrastructure to more effectively recognize, track, and incentivize the community's contributions. With a funding request of $485,000, this plan seeks to cultivate a transparent and rewarding ecosystem, directly supporting our goal to build the Agents Program, a decentralized HR framework. This framework is intended to optimize the integration of talent throughout the ecosystem's various collectives, ensuring efficient resource utilization. Our proposal is structured around four critical development components:

  • API Development ($220,000 - 2 FTEs): To build a scalable and secure system for comprehensive data collection and processing, essential for capturing a broad spectrum of agent activities within the ecosystem.

  • Web UI Creation ($75,000 - 1 FTE): To develop an accessible, user-friendly interface for exploring agents' reputations and contribution histories, making it easier for participants to navigate and understand their impact within the community.

  • Indexing Implementation ($165,000 - 1.5 FTEs): To organize, store, and swiftly retrieve data, ensuring efficient, real-time tracking of contributions and activities, which is vital for maintaining an up-to-date representation of agent efforts.

  • Communication & Information Gathering ($25,000 - 0.25 FTE): To establish direct links with every program, collective, and bounty in the ecosystem, gathering detailed operational information to compile a comprehensive directory for agents and newcomers.

The total funding request of $485,000, equivalent to 50,817.27 DOT (based on a 7-day EMA of $9.544 per DOT), will support the project over 9-month development period.

Very good initiative TOM, I think I should be able to see it in action to be able to criticize it better, I like the idea of focusing on various areas and not like the Parity ambassador program that did not have a clear direction. I would like to see it in action :)AYE

Hello,

This seems like it could address an important issue in Polkadot, however the proposal is very light on details. Performance tracking, measurement and incentivization are things that span both art and science, and inevitably have tradeoffs that come from the measurement methodology. Could you speak more about your thoughts on this in detail, and what impact/tradeoffs you are planning to make with this system? In addition, would you be able to write a more detailed proposal and strongly consider using the standard proposal template?

In addition it would be great to know more about:

  • It's unclear who is going to be building this, and the expertise they have (i.e. in API development, Web Dev, Indexing). Are these developers already on the StakePlus team, and what expertise do you have in creating similar systems?
  • Can you lay out the development milestones in a more detailed way? Is there a spec to justify the spend here? I would suggest looking at Nova proposals to see how they lay out development.
  • Have you considered building out this program / tech in a more agile and iterative way? It seems more like a waterfall type development which could lead to a "build it and they will come" type problem.
  • Who would be the customer of the product(s) here, and to what degree have you validated the need for this?
  • Transparency, Incentivization and Talent Utilization seem like good goals, but very broad and vague. Can you detail the expected impact and stakeholders in more detail? I.e. the expected impact with each of the three Phases, as well as over time?
  • I believe the DF program requires the answer to many of these questions, as well as detailed development milestones. If you have already prepared the application, then perhaps you could share that or copy it into your proposal, while redacting any confidential information.

@W1ZSPR3

This program was meant as a replacement for the ambassador program. Typically ambassador programs are outward facing, collecting a pool of people to yell on twitter and show up to events. I thought this was the wrong approach for polkadot. Since we're a truly decentralized ecosystem all internal operations that would normally be filled by an entity like parity now need to be filled by community members. It would be more ideal for us to design an inward facing ambassador program that acts something like a decentralized HR system. Bringing people into the ecosystem, showing them the jobs available, how to apply, and most importantly educating them about the network. But, without a clear path and hand holding many ecosystem agents will have trouble joining a team, organizing, getting funding, etc. This program is meant to act as a path of least resistance for new comers and for those looking to do more.

We need more people, more devs, more accountant/administration types, more event type people, more marketing people, we need more of everything. Instead of growing and incentivizing that growth, we're becoming conservative and making the gauntlet of opengov as arduous as possible. Why are we making it arduous? Because everyone is afraid of making a mistake. What if I aye a proposal that doesn't deliver? This is one method to give someone the tools to quickly look at an address and to simplify and quantify the on-chain activity. Which should hopefully make the running of the gauntlet an easier process for members who keep their heads down and get their work done. IDK, maybe I'm wrong and it should be mandatory to shit post for 3 hours every day to maintain your social credit and awareness standing.

This first step is the reputational layer that will attempt to quantify an agents contributions based on verifiable on-chain activity. Having this will allow ecosystem agents an easier time in interfacing with each other. It will be possible for someone to quickly see what other programs, projects, etc that a particular address has been involved with. As the number of collectives, bounties and sub-daos grows in every category we will need more agents to fill these voids. Just look at how many bounties and programs have been formed in less than a year. We didn't even start decentralizing until 6 months ago.

    1. We will build it. Stake plus has 4 employees currently (3 who can code). I'd use the funding to expand our team. It would be ideal to bring on developers to specifically fill that role instead of people "who can code". Ideally I'd like to hire on at least one developer from the community and one developer from outside of the ecosystem. While I'm definitely no 10x or 100x coder but can code in numerous languages proficiently enough. I'm a bit of a php boomer though.
    1. The program is already split into 3 self contained chunks. The reputation layer that will quantify existing contributions and activity on chain, the learn 2 earn program which will educate newcomers, and the final launch phase which will consist of bringing CMs on board, launching marketing campaigns, and getting a collective established on chain. We're starting with the reputation layer. The reputation layer consists of an indexer that pulls data from on chain and aggregates it, an API that will allow endpoints to query the data, and a frontend that we weren't originally expecting to build but have added it to provide some interface that people can start to interact with prior to integration with other applications (wallets, ecosystem apps, etc).
    1. The reputational layer that we're asking to fund here is to quantify existing and on-going contributions. It will allow anyone to quickly look up an address and see a members ecosystem participation to date with a quantified social-credit score like metric ("Agent Level"). In the later phases of the program we will be seeking funding to add on a learn 2 earn system, the program pathway, marketing, bd and on-boarding community managers to add to this reputational layer. Our hope is that as the ecosystem expands and takes on more of the responsibilities that had previously been delegated to Parity, we will be able to fill these roles using this program.
    1. Just look around you, the ecosystem is dwindling in numbers. We're walling ourselves off, not being friendly or interested in bringing in new people to fill roles or needs. It's the same 10-15 people as curators to all the bounties. The most amazing thing to happen since the bear started was the DOTA inscriptions. But we're not going to fund them because we don't know who they are and we don't like inscriptions. It's one of the few things I've disagreed with Giotto on. Polkaworld always has a tough time in governance for the same reasons but are killing it in Asia. How can we continue to operate on the basis of "I don't know you nay" and be a multi-national, multi-lingual transnational DAO? It's bonkers. Currently everyone is relying on their perceptions rather than forming perspective on the reality.
    1. We want people to be recognized for their contributions to the ecosystem. The impact should be to make it easier for people to "rise the ranks" of Polkadot DAO, bring in new people, new ideas, points of view, etc. I have personally witnessed people work on things unpaid and underpaid for years only to get usurped by individuals with louder twitter voices. We need to recognize people for the work they've done by adding some semblance of a reputational layer.
    1. Here is a link to the points/level framework: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-O52PEStUHchDqqqvcXkFmZwFpG4AIIh11JZVYqUK7E/edit?usp=sharing . This is just a general idea of how I'm looking at the problem and how it may be possible to achieve something like a social credit score based on an individuals's on-chain verified contributions and activity. My experience in doing these things has been that as you get into building these sort of frame works there will undoubtedly be changes along the way. The final result isn't likely to look anything like what you started out.
