Short description:
PolkaMAPS is a step further in the evolution of the highly successful concept of bitmaps, first introduced on Bitcoin and Solmaps on Solana. PolkaMAPS is a groundbreaking project designed to visualize and navigate the intricate workings of the Polkadot ecosystem. We plan to have it completed within ~60 days.
Important! PolkaMAPS is under construction and will be delivered regardless. However, this funding will enable us to deliver an AAA experience.
Important 2! DOTins does not have a token, we collect minting fees on the platform.

1. PolkaMAPS
1.1 What is PolkaMAPS
PolkaMAPS is a decentralized, community-driven journey that will redefine digital sovereignty within the Polkadot ecosystem. PolkaMAPS is a consensus rule set based upon the simple theory that Polkadot blocks, transactions, and the fundamentals data structure can be represented spatially. In PolkaMAPS, anyone can claim sovereignty over a plot — a unique set of consecutive slots on the Polkadot Network.
The key difference between PolkaMAPS and other inscription-based maps, like Bitmaps on Bitcoin, is that this model considers the uniqueness of Polkadot: from the umbrella architecture involving the parachains to the interoperability Polkadot provides. While other standards are a mere representation of the block content based on trading volume or some simplified metric, PolkaMAPS can capture the level of active interoperability occurring on a certain block and customize the algorithm to reflect parachains’ activity. PolkaMAPS adds multiple dimensions to the inscription-maps, which can only be used on Polkadot due to its architecture.
PolkaMAPS are omni-inscriptions on Polkadot, a new standard for storing immutable data on-chain. Immutable omni-inscriptions on Polkadot allows PolkaMAPS standard to follow the first-is-first rule, ensuring legitimacy and uniqueness of each plot, preventing the creation of duplicates.
PolkaMAPS are meant to be used by the community to develop endless possibilities, from metaverse games to generative art and data visualization. The community is highly encouraged to contribute to the PolkaMAPS universe by integrating native Polkadot properties of slots and blocks. Join us as we embark on a mission to shape the decentralized future of Polkadot — one dot at a time.
1.2 Value Proposition for Polkadot
PolkaMAPS will conduct an airdrop campaign of PolkaMAPS plots to be announced on Airlyft, regardless of the outcome of this proposal.
The launch event, where users will mint plots of land, will be an income-generating event for the Relay Chain, the network will receive fees for every interaction.
With our marketplace and our inscription deployer, we expect a new community eagerly waiting to try out and experiment with inscriptions, launching their own projects like we noticed on DOTins' launch on Moonbeam, see for yourself at app.dotins.io/tokens and also on other inscription projects outside of Polkadot.
Last but not least, inscriptions are GREAT for user onboarding, users just need DOT and a Polkadot wallet. It couldn't be easier than that. The fact that DOT is now accepted as fee payments in many Parachains also helps our cause, we can be the beacon for a new wave of users.
2. DOTins
2.1 Our Vision
DOTins is not meant to define the rulesets for inscription — this is a task for Polkadot’s community. This project is about empowering the community with all unique features of Polkadot and showcase the capabilities of our ecosystem.
By using Polkadot’s framework and unique features, we believe we can take inscriptions to a whole new level of decentralization and democracy. By allowing inscriptions to occur simultaneously in different chains (parachains and relay chain), omni-inscription can provide a proof-of-ownership in different scopes. Scope is the extent of the subject matter to which it is relevant. Anyone should be able to limit or expand the scope of their inscriptions as they choose.
As more use-cases of inscriptions and omni-inscriptions surge, DOTins will use mint and trading funds to relentlessly work to adapt, evolve and provide our community with the most innovative features and the best user experience.
2.2 Our Achievements this Far
🎀 Pink airdrop to our community
🥇 Top 1 Dapp on Moonbeam at our launch
💀 Game Jam in parnetship with DOT is DED Games
🎨 With prizes by Unique Network
🌕 Stategic Colaboration with Moonbeam Foundation
2.3 Scaling Inscriptions
Polkadot is not the same as years ago when the first inscriptions were introduced by RMRK as system.rmrk. XCM has progressed significantly; we now have Asset Hub chains, fully operational Smart Contract chains, and Parachains that have matured and are even progressing on interoperable NFTs.
In a safe cross-chain ecosystem like Polkadot, we can have utility on a Smart Contract chain and the minting of inscriptions on a more populated chain like the Relay Chain. There are many possibilities; NFTs can span through multiple chains, but they will find a home where there are better tools and demand for them. This could be in the Polkadot Asset Hub or any other chain.
And finally, we are exploring making PolkaMAPS indexers open source. This means anyone can make a copy and verify if the dapp is legitimate
3. Funding Allocation for PolkaMAPS
Role | Amount |
2 Full-Stack Developer 176h x 2 FTE x 6 months x $75 | $158,400 |
1 Substrate Developer 176h x 2 FTE x 3 months x $75 | $79,200 |
1 Generative Artist/Developer [per service] 1h x 1 FTE x 1 month x $25,000 | $25,000 |

Can this project bring 35,100 DOT value to polkadot?
Hi @DOTins,
Thank you for the proposal. The concept of ordinals and inscriptions on Bitcoin, as far as I know, was invented by Casey Rodarmor to enable the creation of unique digital assets on the Bitcoin blockchain. Ordinals, as you may know, are uniquely identifiable satoshis (the smallest unit of Bitcoin, similar to planck on Polkadot), and inscriptions are just arbitrary digital data attached to these unique satoshis. Rodarmor's ordinal theory is available here if anyone is interested.
Now, if we get back to Polkadot, inscriptions, which we could safely call arbitrary on-chain data (to be honest I don't even know why we're using the Bitcoin term inscriptions, it's remarks on Polkadot), have been available on Polkadot since the genesis, through the remark extrinsic. So we've always had this primitive way of representing arbitrary digital data/assets on-chain. On top of that, we have Asset Hub chains, and we also have at least one parachain team who have been working with NFTs as core components, and parachains that support EVM contracts, which enable advanced NFT and trading contract functionalities.
An ordinals implementation at planck-level could be an interesting technical challenge on Polkadot, but your proposal doesn't seem to offer that. It's a vague proposal that, from what I understand, basically offers to initiate an NFT (call it inscriptions, digital assets, etc.) project based on Polkadot and its parachains' existing on-chain storage capabilities.
While I can see that there could be community activity around this idea, and I agree that the cross-chain possibilities could bring about extra excitement, I don't find this proposal interesting or promising enough to justify the ~$350K budget requested. To make it clearer, I would consider this project with a budget in the range of $50K-$100K.
Best regards,
