Polkadot Southeast Asia Developer Community Expansion for 1 Year Operation
In the dynamic landscape of the Southeast Asia web3 space, the adoption of Polkadot faces a critical challenge. Despite the region's increasing interest in digital assets, the awareness and utilization of the Polkadot ecosystem remain surprisingly low. With just a fraction of the web3 community actively engaged in Polkadot-related platforms, the untapped potential is evident.
The Southeast Asian web3 space holds immense opportunities for Polkadot, yet its adoption is hindered by a lack of localized efforts in building strong users & developers base. The absence of comprehensive materials in local languages and limited outreach initiatives restricts the platform's visibility, preventing it from gaining traction among both end-users and skilled developers in the region.
In this proposal, we aim to seek funding from the Polkadot OpenGov to be allocated with the purpose of providing opportunities and funding the development of various initiatives with specific objectives aimed at building the Polkadot ecosystem in the Southeast Asia Region. These programs encompass activities focusing on Developer Engagement, Incubation Activities, and Application Development.
What you can expect from this proposal:
- Market Expansion: Capitalizing on the growing interest among individual and institutional investors in the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.
- User Education: Conducting awareness and networking events, sponsorship to attract users and developers on a regional level.
- Developer Community Engagement: Building a solid community of low-to-high level engineers in the Southeast Asia region to contribute to the Polkadot ecosystem.
Deliverables for 2024:
The proposal outlines a comprehensive plan to expand the Polkadot community and developer base in Southeast Asia through strategic initiatives, partnerships, and educational programs. The expected outcomes include a stronger presence in the region, increased awareness, and active participation in the Polkadot ecosystem.
- Conferences' Side Event Organization: Organizing side events of popular conferences in Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia, with a target number of attendees for side events.
- Developer Bootcamp: Series of 8-12 sessions with the same track, performed in multiple developers' communities or IT universities in each country.
- Mini Hackathon Launch: Four events (each country) per year targeting indie hackers and students.
Developer related initiatives such as bootcamp and mini hackathon will be taught through The Lowlevelers — a Non-Profit Comprehensive Playground for passionate programmers to curate and provide materials with a low-level approach for developers interested in the Polkadot blockchain. We are targeting to reach 10,000+ developers for this initiative.

Hello Team,

Otherwise, the referendum will expire/time out.
As part of the community team, I have been working with Patricia for months and I can say that she is a great leader and executor of projects from APAC. It is very exciting to be able to see this type of proposal in the Polkadot Treasury. This is what will bring us a larger developer community in one of the fastest growing areas of Web3 in recent years. ALL MY SUPPORT!
