sub0 Asia 2024 - pre-funding request
sub0 - The Polkadot Developers Conference is the conference for developers building at every level of the Polkadot tech stack — from custom layer-1 blockchains to dApps and smart contracts, infrastructure, tooling, cross-chain interoperability solutions, and more.
In 2024 sub0 will make its debut as a regional edition for Asia and is seeking funding from Polkadot Treasury. The last edition took place in LX-Factory in Lisbon September, 2023, supported by the Web3 Foundation, together with the teams of Apillon, Phala Network, Astar Network and Manta Network in representation of the entire Polkadot ecosystem brought together the global Polkadot developer community.
Decentered Studio is the team that managed sub0 2023 and 2022 already and is currently decentralizing. Some background here.
We collected feedback on where and when this regional edition should take place and are proposing mid of March 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Sub0 will again provide an open introduction to next-generation multichain networks, as well as a chance for existing Polkadot and Substrate developers to deepen their skills and connect with each other. For this year's edition we want 50% of our audience to be new developers from outside of our ecosystem. This includes people who are not building on Substrate but are curious to learn more. By opening our doors to developers who are not (or only slightly) familiar with our tech, we can bring in more potential builders and expand our market reach and visibility.
It will be the first sub0 with paid tickets to help subsidize the impact to the Polkadot Treasury. Ticket revenue will contribute to 8-10% of the required budget.
THIS IS THE FUNDING REQUEST FOR MILESTONE 1. Requested DOTs for this milestone: 99,950 (which covers approximately 85% of the budget) Second Milestone will be post-event to avoid over-payment.

Very expensive proposal for Thailand. sub0 should a more low key event with great content like Protocol Berg. For an event with 400-500 people in Thailand the ask seems excessive. Why are you charging for tickets and how much? With the amount ask it should be free for the community and more if you are planning for people to travel there. I hope you are planning THE GREATEST sub0 ever otherwise I dont understand the ask. Your proposal mentions streaming twice, what is that about? Can we just get the videos on Youtube 1 week later and save the community 100k? What are the metrics for livestream audience that is worth it so much? A more detailed and transparent budget is needed here.
@Fortheloveofgud thanks for your comment. The costing is based on past experiences with sub0 events in 2022 and 2023 and is not comparable to more symposium types of events such as protocol.berg - sub0 should also act as a platform for parachain and dapps teams to showcase their projects.

Ticketing cost will range between USD99 and USD199 depending on the time of purchase from early bird to last minute. This is in line with numerous feedbacks that ecosystem events should not be entirely be free for attendees.
