Tip Proposal: CodeanDOT x Space4Build

Rejected

CodeanDOT was an educational bootcamp held over four consecutive Saturdays beggining on july and ending on august, designed to bring more women into the Polkadot ecosystem by strengthening their technical skills and encouraging female participation in technology.\

Bootcamp para H.E.R DAO.zip - 1

This initiative was led by Space4Build and invited communities of women and the H.E.R DAO subDAOs, focusing on creating an inclusive, educational, and collaborative space for women taking their first steps in blockchain.

Each session combined theory, practice, and real-world experiences, showing that every woman can find her place in Polkadot — whether through programming, project management, communications, or digital art.

Participation and Impact

  • 25 participants successfully completed the bootcamp.
  • Many explored coding and Polkadot tools for the first time.
  • Many began their preparation for future Polkadot hackathons at codeanDOT.
  • Organic content was generated on social media (X and LinkedIn) through participant testimonials, sharing their experiences and reinforcing Polkadot’s visibility across the region.

Content and Session Activities

Session 1 – Discovering the Strengths of Polkadot

  • Facilitator: Angélica Graterol, Senior Polkadot Ambassador
  • Topic: Introduction to Polkadot’s architecture, governance, educational resources, and opportunities.

A special thanks to Simón León (@simonxpe), who guided all four sessions, providing technical mentorship, introducing participants to the fundamentals of Polkadot, and helping them take their first steps in coding.

We also thank the incredible guest speakers who inspired us with their knowledge and leadership:

  • Yedid Romero (H.E.R DAO LATAM, Mexico)
  • Emmi (Technolatinas, Bolivia)
  • Karen Luna (Entel, Peru)
  • Ishtar Spring (Digital Artist, Spain)
  • Marilyn Alarcón (PyLadies, Colombia)
  • Florentina (ValidAndina, France)

Thank you for showing that in Web3 and Polkadot, every woman can shine and contribute from her own path.

I also want to express my gratitude to the communities that were part of this initiative — their support, enthusiasm, and collaboration were essential to make CodeanDOT possible.

Bootcamp para H.E.R DAO.zip - 2

  • H.E.R DAO Global (including LATAM subDAOs: Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Bolivia, Chile, Venezuela)
  • Women in Polkadot
  • PyLadies
  • Women Tech Makers LATAM
  • Technolatinas

For the educational impact, organizational effort, mentorship, and representation of Polkadot within this initiative, I would like to request a tip of 140 DOTs as symbolic recognition for the coordination, logistics, mentorship, and communication efforts involved in this first edition of #CodeanDOT.

This contribution will help continue supporting future editions of the bootcamp and strengthen our shared commitment to education, inclusion, and the participation of more women in the Polkadot ecosystem.

Edition #2 coming soon, stay tuned.

Saxemberg has voted NAY on the Polkadot referendum 1780. Tip: CodeanDOT x Space4Build. Based on DVs and other parties remarks, a unified rationale regarding retroactive proposals is needed, therefore we reevaluated the retroactive scores towards an even more negative approach.
Our recommendation is to get a budget approved in advance so that these don't become surprise retroactive referenda and the voter can be aware of what it is going to be included as a delivery in advance, even for micro tips such as this one.

@SAXEMBERG

OpenGov is an open space where all members can freely submit their proposals. The small and big tipper categories, in particular, have shorter timeframes for actions related to minor expenses and, primarily, retroactive ecosystem improvements.

This activity was discussed in the forum in advance (https://forum.polkadot.network/t/bootcamp-codeandot-x-space4build/13613), and the requested compensation is symbolic considering the time and effort to execute the activity and compared to other types of activities.

If the DVs are unable to participate objectively and independently, justifying their rejection suggesting centralization, they would be undermining the very purpose of this type of space.

Participation is key to maintaining a healthy ecosystem. We encourage you to promote openness, not centralization.

Dear Proposer,

Thank you for your proposal. Our second vote on this proposal is NAY. Below is the evaluation of our voting policy v0.3 on this referendum:

🔴 NAY

Below is a summary of our members' comments:

The vote opposed the tip proposal for a bootcamp designed to empower women in the Polkadot ecosystem. Members expressed doubts about whether the initiative’s ambitious educational and inclusion goals would ultimately generate the desired impact. Although the structured sessions had combined theoretical insight, hands-on technical skills, and lived experiences to introduce groundbreaking blockchain concepts, there was uncertainty regarding the overall effectiveness and long-term benefits of the program. Concerns centered on the potential mismatch between the investment of 140 DOTs and the realized value in terms of broad community impact and sustainable outcomes within the evolving Polkadot landscape.

The full discussion can be found in our internal voting.
