🎥 A Tokenization Story — Polkadot x Discovery Channel
A rare Australian opal will be mined, set in gold, and sold using $DOT live on Outback Opal Hunters (Discovery Channel), featured in a 10–13 minute jaw-dropping episode reaching 20–30 million viewers across 100+ countries via the following top global streaming platforms and many more.
The opal will be transformed into a Polkadot-themed amulet, tokenized into 100 billion fungible tokens on the Polkadot Asset Hub, and fully owned by the Polkadot Treasury—allowing the entire Polkadot community to own a piece of the story. The amulet will be sold to a Polkadot community member on behalf of the entire Polkadot community. The intellectual property (IP) for the amulet and tokenization process will be fully open-source, enabling community innovation and transparency.
This referendum delivers authentic, high-impact product placement on mainstream TV, paired with a user-friendly token redemption system that enables anyone—regardless of Web3 experience—to participate.
The physical amulet will be available for display at Polkadot events and promoted as "As seen on the Discovery Channel," blending real-world storytelling with immersive blockchain utility.
This marks the first real-world asset (RWA) acquired by the Treasury, signaling a strategic move toward RWA-backed diversification and setting a powerful precedent for community-driven asset ownership on Polkadot.

This would be the first real-world asset (RWA) acquired by the Polkadot Treasury, but it’s built on a proven concept.
We previously sold the first opal in the metaverse, also featured on Outback Opal Hunters. That campaign reached a global audience, was covered by five major media outlets, and demonstrated how storytelling, physical assets, and blockchain can work together to capture attention and onboard new users.
For this new campaign, we’ll be tracking:
- Wallets created via our email-based redemption system
- Tokens claimed by viewers and community members
- On-chain activity and volume, especially if listed on the Hydration Omnipool
Our redemption system is already live as a proof of concept (PoC) and auto-generates wallets, making it easy to measure engagement and conversions. This can also be linked to a QR code for simple claiming at events.
