The operating cost for the research organization Polkadot Ecology Research Institute for 2025/4-2026/3
Hello everyone in the Polkadot community! We are the Polkadot Ecology Research Institute, the largest research institute in Asia focusing on the Polkadot ecosystem, and also a research organization with significant global influence within the Polkadot ecosystem. We have successfully completed all plans for the last treasury application, so we are applying here for our annual operational expenses from April 2025 to March 2026.
About Us
The members of the Polkadot Ecology Research Institute are all among the earliest builders of the Chinese Polkadot community. We have been contributing to the Polkadot ecosystem since 2019, and it has been more than six years now. We are also one of the earliest institutions globally to support the construction of Polkadot. Due to our outstanding contributions, high-quality research content, and significant influence, we have received support from the Polkadot Treasury eight times in a row.
- We have cumulatively written nearly 300 original pieces of content and in-depth reports on the development of Polkadot and its ecosystem, achieving a total of over 63 million page views (you can check each article and relevant data in the details of the proposal). We are also the only institution in the Chinese market that publishes research content on the official Medium of Polkadot.
- We have supported more than 90 Polkadot-related activities in total. In 2022 and 2023, we participated as guests in the global sharing activities of the Polkadot Decoded community conference for two consecutive years. The total number of people we have promoted Polkadot to through all these activities exceeds 50,000.
- We have also been actively empowering the development of the Polkadot ecosystem. We have provided content, activity, and community support for more than 130 projects in the ecosystem. Additionally, we have provided investment and financing consultation and docking for some projects.
- In the past year, we have increased our overseas operation efforts to serve the global Polkadot market. Especially in terms of Twitter operation, we currently have more than 4,700 followers, which is six times the number of followers we had in the same period last year. The page views have increased tenfold, and we have cumulatively published more than 6,000 tweets.
- We have accumulated more than 800 core Polkadot fans in the Asian market. Their DOT holdings exceed 2.5 million tokens, and most of these users have held DOT for more than three years. This makes us the largest DOT-holding community in the Asian market.
Why does the Polkadot ecosystem need us?
- As one of the few research institutions globally that focus on the development of the Polkadot ecosystem, we can provide high-quality Polkadot-related content for global crypto users, including original articles, original reports, interesting videos, ecological data, interpretations of major events, etc. Through a series of activities and community building, we can expand the influence of Polkadot in the crypto ecosystem.
- As one of the earliest institutions in the Asia-Pacific region to support the development of Polkadot, we have a significant influence in the Asian market. We have contributed nearly half of the original content to the Chinese market and have received the attention of more than 20,000 Polkadot users. The DOT holdings of our core users exceed 2.5 million DOTs.
- Chinese-speaking users have a huge influence in the global crypto market, which is a market that all crypto projects are investing heavily in to expand. The Polkadot Ecology Research Institute, based in the Asia-Pacific region, has good inherent advantages and can serve as a bridge connecting overseas Polkadot users and ecological projects.
- With the successive launches of Polkadot 2.0, Polkadot Hub, and JAM, more users and developers need to pay attention to and enter the Polkadot ecosystem. In the past few years, the Polkadot Ecology Research Institute has brought tens of thousands of new users to Polkadot and provided operational assistance to more than 10 ecological projects mainly composed of developers. We are an indispensable builder of the ecosystem.
What are our plans for the next year?
Our core goal for the next year is centered around "Make Polkadot Great Again!" and enhancing the influence of Polkadot in the Asia-Pacific region.
Many old public blockchains, including Polkadot, had their glorious moments a few years ago. However, their development in recent years has not been satisfactory, and some have even fallen into a slump. For example, BNBChain, FTM, and even Solana have all experienced such situations or are currently in such a state. Polkadot and these public blockchains need to take some measures to show everyone the new opportunities in the present and the future.
Therefore, as those who have participated in and witnessed the glory of Polkadot in the past, we hope to serve this goal through the content we are good at. On the one hand, we aim to activate the former users, fans, and developers, allowing them to see the current development of Polkadot and regain its influence from the bottom up. On the other hand, through research, we want to provide some solutions for more builders in the industry, stimulate more people's activity, and make Polkadot develop better.
To this end, after extensive discussions and communications with the community, DAO, key leaders, etc., the following five core OKRs have been formulated, which serve as the specific manifestation of achieving our core goals in the coming year.
- Continue to Ensure the Quality and Reach of Original Content: Over the past six years, we have centered on creating and researching original in-depth content, which has been highly recognized by the community. In the future, we will continue to produce original content and conduct research while ensuring quality, and disseminate the content through well-known Chinese media and core overseas channels.
- Continue to Assist and Expand Polkadot Ecosystem Construction: We will continue to provide support to over 130 projects in the Polkadot ecosystem, including but not limited to content, events, community building, etc., to enhance the influence and visibility of ecosystem projects within the community and help the public better understand these projects.
- Strive to Improve Key Metrics of Core Channels: Through our efforts in content and events over the next year, we will drive traffic from the Crypto public domain to improve the key metrics of our core channels. Specifically, we aim to reach 8,000 Twitter followers within 12 months, grow the user base of Polkadot ecosystem vertical communities and Telegram groups to 3,000, and maintain an average reading volume of 600 for in-depth original reports on our WeChat official account. Although these goals may be affected by market conditions, we will do our utmost to achieve them.
- Enhance the influence of the latest technical upgrades of Polkadot in the Chinese-speaking region: In the coming year, we will write relevant content, carry out related activities, and build special communities (to gather users and developers) around the major technical upgrades of Polkadot (mainly including Polkadot Hub and JAM), so as to attract more users to pay attention to the development potential brought by the cutting-edge technologies of Polkadot.
- Continue to Enhance the Institute's Overseas Influence: Over the past year, we have shifted part of our focus from the Asia-Pacific region to global Polkadot ecosystem construction. In the future, we will continue to enhance our overseas influence and organize more events to serve the global market.
Based on the above five core OKRs, we will formulate the following specific work plans from four aspects: content creation, activity implementation, market construction, and community building. We will elaborate on them in as much detail as possible to facilitate everyone's better understanding of our plans.

We have recently released a strategic development report on Polkadot with a word count of more than 12,000 words. This report is a comprehensive report on the current situation, challenges, competitive strategies, and various solutions of Polkadot that we have provided after conducting detailed community research (including developers) and collecting materials, taking nearly one month. It has sparked extensive discussions within the Polkadot community, been reposted and read by many institutions, and has been recognized by the Web3 Foundation. If you are interested, you can refer to this in-depth report.
In addition, here is our work completion report for the past year, and you can check the detailed content:
The development report of Polkadot Ecology Research Institute for 2024/4 - 2024/9
The development report of Polkadot Ecology Research Institute for 2024/10 - 2025/3
In this proposal, we have applied for 12 months of operating funds, mainly for labor costs. This is also the ninth time we have applied to the Polkadot Treasury. Our application amount is not particularly large because it is mainly for the labor costs of the daily operation of the research institute. For example, the business costs and travel expenses for our participation in various Polkadot activities have always been paid by ourselves in the past few years, and it will be the same for this application.
You can check our detailed proposal, more information about us, and the evaluations of our work by Polkadot builders here.
Please cast your precious vote for us. If you have any questions or opinions, you can leave a message in the proposal, and we will actively reply.
P.S. The reason we're applying for treasury funding instead of going through Market Bounty is primarily due to processing timelines. From our understanding, some teams have waited several months without receiving feedback through the Market Bounty channel. Since we're currently using our own payroll funds to support the team, we require a more expedited funding process to ensure timely salary payments and team continuity. Therefore, applying directly to the treasury represents our most viable option at this time.

Many thanks for your proposal, Polkadot Eco Researcher!
We have carefully reviewed your application and are pleased to share our assessment below, prepared using our standardized evaluation methodology.
Summary of our analysis
■ Impact on the Ecosystem
The Polkadot Ecology Research Institute’s proposal significantly enhances Polkadot’s long-term development and adoption through extensive educational content and community engagement, particularly in the Chinese market. It delivers sustainable value by creating a lasting content repository and fostering collaboration, though its direct impact on interoperability and parachain development is limited.
■ Governance Compatibility
The proposal aligns well with the MediumSpender origin, requesting 57,719 DOT within the track’s 100,000 DOT limit, and leverages the governance system meaningfully. Eight prior successful treasury applications demonstrate consistent community support and effective use of the system without burdening it.
■ Cost-Benefit Ratio
The USD 209,520 budget is proportionate to the institute’s demonstrated impact, offering significant value through increased adoption and strategic insights. While the budget framework is reasonable, the lack of explicit cheaper alternatives slightly weakens the cost-efficiency evaluation.
■ Transparency and Traceability
The proposal clearly outlines fund usage with detailed budgets and output metrics, such as 36 reports, ensuring transparency. Robust reporting plans, including public updates via Google Docs and Medium, enable evidence-based tracking, though specific impact KPIs are less defined.
■ Record and Credibility
The institute has a strong track record, producing nearly 300 reports with 63 million views and supporting 130 projects. Their credibility is supported by public references and endorsements, with a capable team poised to deliver the proposed outcomes.
