Introducing Nighthawk

Nighthawk is a privacy-focused browser extension designed to provide safe browsing in the Web3 space. Completely open-source and serverless, Nighthawk ensures user privacy by handling all activity within the browser itself, without storing browsing history or compromising data. It offers comprehensive protection against phishing threats, including suspicious URLs and social media phishing on platforms like X, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Users can also notify our analyst team directly of any suspicious activity, with new threats added to the Phishfort blocklist.

Recent Milestones 

We’ve successfully developed a robust rule-based engine to protect users within the Polkadot ecosystem and other crypto platforms. This framework allows for precise rule management, ensuring real-time phishing detection and prevention. The project is part of Polkadot's Referenda #574, and we’re now seeking additional funding for our next initiative.

What’s Next: LLM-Powered Phishing Detection

Our next initiative focuses on creating an automated pipeline that leverages a Large Language Model (LLM) to generate anti-phishing rules in real-time. This innovation will reduce the time it takes to detect new threats and provide immediate protection to users. Our project goals include:

• Preventing asset loss: Reducing phishing-related losses in the Polkadot community.
• Zero-day phishing detection: Generating rules to detect and block new, unknown phishing kits as they emerge.

Why Nighthawk Matters

Phishing is an ever-present threat in the crypto space, with millions of dollars lost to scams. Nighthawk aims to become an essential tool for every crypto user, whether seasoned or new. With high engagement from the Polkadot community, we believe this initiative will help address the growing phishing problem and protect user assets.

Key Activities and Deliverables

• Data exploration: Organizing data subsets to aid model training.
• Real-time rule generation pipeline: Automating the LLM to generate and test rules for new phishing threats.
• LLM configuration and fine-tuning: Tailoring the LLM to detect emerging phishing tactics.
• Innovative solution: Developing a cutting-edge, open-source anti-phishing system powered by LLM.

The final deliverable will be a LLM-based rule generation engine, offering real-time protection and setting a new standard in phishing prevention.

Project Team and Timeline

Our team consists of engineers, a research engineer, a phishing analyst, and a project manager. The project has a $100,000 budget and is set to be completed within 10-12 months, covering development, testing, and deployment.
