SoyPolkadot: Driving Mass Adoption in LATAM through Real Experiences and Rewards
We propose launching "SoyPolkadot" (I'm Polkadot in spanish), a strategic initiative to significantly expand Polkadot’s adoption in Latin America, focusing on end users rather than developers.
The project includes participation in three major fairs in Colombia (SOFA — Leisure and Fantasy Expo, Bogota international book Fair, and Colombia 4.0), meetings with chambers of commerce, entrepreneurs, and students in art and music, alongside a digital marketing campaign in Spanish and educational content on SoyPolkadot.com.
We will incentivize participation with DOTs, memecoins, and exclusive NFTs. After the first year, we will evaluate and develop complementary projects in other countries across the region to further drive Polkadot adoption. This project not only benefits LATAM but also strengthens Polkadot’s global ecosystem by increasing DOT demand and demonstrating the power of decentralized governance.
Previous Experience in Blockchain Projects
Our journey into the crypto world began in 2013, when we started mining smaller coins like Solarcoin, Memory Coin, and Anoncoin. The gains were modest but gave us valuable experience in the space.
In 2017, we converted our initial mining profits into Ethereum and expanded our mining operations using a couple of GPUs. We also mined Monero using CPU power and diversified our investments into tokens from emerging projects of that time, including Monaco (now Crypto.com) and Tezos, along with participating in several ICOs.
A few years ago, we joined the Helium Network project by installing the first four antennas in Bogotá to support the network's decentralized expansion. Around the same time, we began doing staking on Polkadot, and after learning about Polkadot 2.0 and JAM, we decided to convert 50% of our savings into DOT, showing our belief in the potential of the Polkadot ecosystem.
Currently, we operate a couple of validators on Ethereum and are supporting the EigenLayer project. We reinvest all our gains into more Polkadot, which we stake continuously. We are strong believers in the power of the Polkadot community and OpenGov, which is why we decided to get involved with this governance project to help spread the benefits of Polkadot and its parachains throughout Latin America.

GM guys.
I am really happy to see new Latin American actors getting interested in Polkadot, especially professional actors.
However, I must say that I am voting NAY to this proposal for several reasons that I will explain below.
1. A very high amount requested for the first time, and even I am happy with the enthusiasm of seeing new actors in the ecosystem, it does not seem to me a rational move to give the high amount requested to a team that has not yet demonstrated its membership in the ecosystem.
I think the ideal would be for them to start making themselves known within the Polkadot community in the region through the bounties that are in operation within the ecosystem in order to gain a reputation that allows them to validate their membership, experience and knowledge about the network.
2. I have a great lack of knowledge about the team, despite I have been 3 times in Colombia (2 in Bogota and 1 in Medellin) with Polkadot events, being recently in September with the Blockchain Summit Latam, I have not had the opportunity to meet directly or indirectly this team, which also generates doubts to give a positive vote in the proposal.
3. Lack of information in the budgets, since the information provided is not duly supported by any voucher, so we do not have any clear information about the real costs of the proposal. In addition, with the experience I have in events in the region, I consider that the figure requested is really high for what is being requested.
Despite this negative vote, I do not want to discourage this team and I invite you to find your space and path within Polkadot. Next month I will be personally in Colombia and I will be happy to talk personally with you and the other active players of the ecosystem that are also based in Colombia to learn more about your perspectives.
I see potential , but the lack of proven records / missing reputation is a concern. Start with small engagements, trackable clear KPIs, and show tangible results.
