Polkadot Blockchain Academy; PBA-X production and launch, Wave 6 production and execution. September 2024 to the end of March 2025.
On behalf of the Polkadot Blockchain Academy, I am posting this proposal for the creation and execution of PBA6 and PBA-X, the online version of the PBA.
The PBA is the single biggest producer of talent for Polkadot. Having spent 2 years educating and introducing over 400 developers and entrepreneurs to Polkadot with its in-person program, the PBA is embarking on a new trajectory. The objective now is to scale and increase inclusivity, to educate thousands of new potential contributors to the ecosystem, whilst diversifying educational content to fit the needs of the ecosystem.
To do so, the present proposal is asking the community to fund a longer than previously proposed, 6 months of activity in order to deliver the following:
- Provide funding and reimbursement for costs associated with a advanced whilst reduced in length Wave 6 in-person cohort of students
- Develop and deliver a new, highly scalable online program : PBA-X, including running the first cohort in January 2025
- Diversify the program with the addition of a new DApps track in addition to the established Protocol track
- Produce a written syllabus to serve as the basis of a ‘Mastering Polkadot’ book
- Grow a network of university partners to make PBA content available to their students
- Create continuous learning, placement and productivity initiatives for the alumni community
Below is a link to the proposal in detail.

$1,961,043.83 USDC is a high cost and deserves a RESET.
In the same way that decoded in Brussels this summer was too big/expensive, causing a Sub0 RESET, we think the PBA costs deserve a similar RESET.
I strongly suggest Draper University in San Mateo with ample housing as a lower cost program that would be better for the Treasury. We have worked across the street at Hero City for many years and have seen many new and seasoned entrepreneurs flow through both buildings on 3rd Ave.
Thanks to the initiative of one of the HAs (Irina Karagyaur), we were introduced to a proposal from Draper University that is FAR below $1.96MM. This proposal is structured as a startup accelerator right now, which may lead to funded teams, funded from Silicon Valley investors. While it doesn’t account for the $80K in instructor costs, it does cover almost all other expenses, as far as we can tell. Based on a few conversations with Chris Joannou, it's clear there's considerable flexibility to co-design a Polkadot-centric program. With planning underway for a Spring and/or Summer program, I’m pleased to see your post for 2025, but there’s no doubt we need a RESET.
The details of Draper's proposal are currently confidential, but we will request a version that can be shared publicly. Since we’re already working in this space, we’re happy to connect the dots. As a purveyor of JAM0 [folded into a proposed Sub0 RESET this November in Bangkok], we’d love to explore the possibility of a Sub0 RESET with JAM in Silicon Valley, which could have a multiplicative impact.
We believe it is important to consider how sub0, PBA, JAM, and many other events can combined wisely for cost efficiency for maximal impact.
Hi Igor here from the PBA1 in Cambridge. As someone who has attended previously, I will support the proposal. The quality of training is unmatched in this space and the PBA.
