Proposal: Launch and scaling of Dai on Polkadot
Hello this is Doo from StableNode and Maker Growth.
We want to help facilitate growth in the upcoming Polkadot DeFi ecosystem while launching Dai in a meaningful way.
Stable Node and MakerDAO Growth Core Unit are interested in launching and scaling Dai on Polkadot.
We aim to push and create demand for Dai on Polkadot. As part of that we need capital to bridge over and build up the liquidity, we want to help foster a strong DeFi community on Polkadot as we have done together with Maker Growth on Ethereum. This will be done by using part of the capital to provide liquidity for newly launched DeFi projects on the Polkadot, running campaigns with the Maker team, and investing Stable Node's own capital in Polkadot based projects. On top of that we want to create a loop where we bridge over Dai, sell it on Decentralized Exchanges, bring liquidity back over the bridge to Ethereum, buying more Dai, and again bridging over and selling this Dai on Polkadot. By ensuring strong use cases for Dai on the Polkadot side, we can create sufficient demand and provide liquidity to meet that demand.
Stable Node was founded by Gustav Arentoft and Doo Wan Nam, seasoned business development and growth professionals. We both spent about three years growing the MakerDAO protocol in the European and Asian markets. We have immense experience in creating growth in new markets and ensuring a sustainable strategy along the way. Over the years we have been working closely with Decentralized Finance, NFT projects, and successful governance communities, especially MakerDAO. In all three fields we have been present since the early days. On top of leading Stable Node, Gustav and Doo are also contributors to the Maker Growth Core Unit. In collaboration with the Maker Growth Core Unit we have successfully executed similar set-ups in the past. We hope to mimic the success on Polkadot.
The Maker Growth Core Unit consists of the former Maker foundation BD team. One of the most successful BD teams in the Ethereum community. We have done more than 1000+ integrations into the MakerDAO protocol (Dai/Vaults/MKR) over the last three years. With a strong multi-chain focus we want to take a hands-on approach on creating mutually beneficial growth in new promising blockchain ecosystems.
As being part of the Maker Growth Core Unit while having a private entity too, we are able to provide hands-on help on projects where they need practical things done. This is something we do with a variety of partners. As we don’t have the same restrictions put in place as a DAO or non-profit foundation.
We are coordinating with Equilibrium on their own launch and have campaigns planned with them. On top of that we are also coordinating the official launch of Dai with the Web3 Foundation, Equilibrium, Curve, MakerDAO, and ourselves Stable Node. The proposal has spring from conversations with the above mentioned organizations.

- Requested DOT Amount
The mechanism of manually bridge over DAI can bridge a large amount of DAI with a small amount of DOT. For example, $200k DOT with 10 trips over the bridge would bring $2M DAI, and 100k with 20 trips can achieve the same effect. Therefore, less requested DOT amount may be appropriate.
- Disposal of Requested DOT and Income
-
The $200k DOT for bridging DAI over is essentially lent to the Stable Node. Does the Stable Node have any arrangements for the return of DOT after bridging? Moreover, this 200k may be exposed to the risk of exchange slippage and gas transaction fees during the bridging. Does Stable Node have any estimation loss ratio?
-
The $200K DOT for initial liquidity is essentially provided by the treasury. When Stable Node provides liquidity for newly launched protocols, it will generate corresponding income. There are other benefits including LP tokens. Are there any arrangements for Stable Node to return the initial liquidity and corresponding benefits?
- Profitability of Capital
The original proposal says, "On top of the liquidity coming from the treasury, we will also deploy our own capital for investments and liquidity. We will run incentive campaigns with marketing budget coming from the Maker Growth Core Unit too."
The capital set up by Stable Node is essentially to invest behind treasury funds and let requested treasury funds exposed to risks. At the same time, the profitability of Stable Node's own capital conflicts with the treasury's common good attribute.
- Detailed Launch Plan
At present, the proposal only mentions projects planned to launch: Equilibrium and Curve. However, the specific parachain is not disclosed. At the same time, it is expected that there will be a detailed launch plan and project list. It would be better to list them specifically.
I failed to see how exactly this proposal helps Polkadot network. Isn't the MakerDAO treasury the more suitable place for this? Or do you already have support form MakerDAO? Is the fund recipient just a EOA account? How could we ensure the funds are used correctly? How do we even measure the effectiveness of the execution? How do you bridge DAI? Why you are requesting it now before Polkadot have any live functional parachains? How exactly the fund is going to be used? Sell all of them to exchange DAI? What are the protocols that going to benefited from this? Why do you need 20k USD to to a bridge trip?
