Feedback request: Unit Masters first grant request
Dear Polkadot community, I sincerely hope this post finds you well on this day/evening depending on your time zone. I am writing this post because as per the title, I would like feedback for our very first grant request from the Polkadot treasury for Unit Masters. Unit Masters is a 6 week educational initiative by Unit Network built on Substrate which aims to deliver online quality education and blockchain literacy to people around the world. We are asking for 409.000 USD in total. Funds which will be deployed to increase the awareness, improve the quality and certify Unit Masters according to the ECTS standards of European Education amongst others. Please, find the link to the proposal below and do let me know what you think of it and and how we could improve it. The feedback of the community is crucial as this is the first time we are asking for a grant from Polkadot and in order for our proposal to be submitted we will have to lock in 5% of the sum we are asking. Since Unit Masters is an NGO, 5% of 409.000 is a considerable sum for us and thus we would like to minimize the probability of rejection through the communiity's feedback. Thank you all in advance for taking the time to go through our proposal! Thank you for bringing this proposal into the limelight, once again!
The Unit Masters programme seems to have a lot of history and iterations behind it already, as shown in the proposal. The prospect of getting this course recognised within and beyond the EU is also very appealing.
One thing that I did find lacking in this 6-week programme is that there seems to be no talk about Web3 security/safety. Onboarding people onto Web3 technologies and processes is a great endeavour, but it would be even better if we could raise awareness about the risks involved in interacting with these new technologies (i.e loss of private keys, Smart contract hacks, market fluctuations, scam projects, phishing on social networks, etc) very explicitly. Basically, it would help to provide more practical advice/recommendations for new entrants who do not always have sufficient digital literacy.
Another point that struck me is that there was nothing said about the actual impact of the programme on participants. For example, it would be interesting to know how many of the course participants are working in Web3? How many are pursuing further blockchain training? To what extent are they still using/interacting with Web3 and on which platforms? Overall, it would be nice to have a comparison of participants' perceptions of Web3 before and after the programme.
Finally, I have seen that this Unit Masters programme is currently offered by Unit network, as a mean to bootstrap users onto its services ahead of deploying a parachain. So, I am wondering whether your team would be willing to work with existing common good parachains like Encointer and Statemine, knowing that these common good parachains use different models for creating communities/entreprises/currencies than Unit network.
Thank you for your time! :)
